thanks for the tip Sarah, I too suffer from horrible allergies. So have you actually tried the lemon balm? Where do you buy that?

Heather,

http://www.herbspro.com

That's the link. My understanding is that you add some to hot water, and mist it on your pillow or wherever... or if you have one of those vicks humidifiers add the lemon balm to that instead of the vicks. I haven't tried it yet... but I am going to.

Is the book just about herbal remedies? Does it list possible side effects, warnings, or drug interactions for the herbal remedies? Most people think if you can buy it over the counter than it's safe, which is definitely not always the case. Some herbal supplements can interfere with the absorption of certain medications, making them ineffective or changing their absorption making them dangerous. Also, many herbal supplements have dangerous side effects of their own. The FDA does not monitor the supplement industry, so the public is not aware of the side effects like we are for drugs. Do your own research don't rely on the claims of the manufacturer. Also, make sure any supplements are USP verified. Because supplements aren't monitored by the FDA they can put what ever they want in the supplement and make any claim they want. USP is an independent company that the supplement manufacturer hires to verify the ingredients. For example, testing showed that some prenatal vitamins had 50% less folic acid in them than what they were claiming on the label. Sorry, this was longer than I intended. :)

Laura...

Nope the book is not just about herbal remedies... and it talks all about interactions, side effects of herbal, over the counter and prescriptions (for example did you know a side effect of iborprofin is weight gain)and about absorption.

It covers it all.

ps. that's why i liked the book - because it wasn't biased towards one or the other, it just gave the information.
